Bob Milner – The Building Blocks of an Extraordinary Life for an Ordinary Man
Bob Milner brought an engaging discussion to the group of 65+ community veterans, entrepreneurs and leaders at the VEL Institute launch event. The discussion centered around three concepts Bob has employed throughout his life from United States Air Force where he served 8 years in various roles to Co-founding Mercedes-Benz of the Woodlands and four additional luxury vehicle dealerships across the United States.
- The Little Train That Could
- A garbage truck
- A school bus
The Little Train That Could: Are you an optimist, realist or pessimist? You’ll never be able to achieve anything higher than you are able to think. As a veteran, entrepreneur or leader you have to have mental toughness and believe you will succeed.
A Garbage Truck: Take your mental and emotional trash out daily. Hang around others who take their trash out daily too. Nothing stifles innovation, creativity and perseverance like old mental and emotional garbage.
A School Bus: Get the right people on the bus and the wrong people off of the bus adapted from Good To Great. When looking for 82 new employees, Bob personally interviewed almost 200 people, some of them more than twice. He was determined to find the right people. Bob believes part of his success is putting the right people ahead of the right skillsets. The majority of his salesforce has zero prior sales experience.
Lastly, Bob challenged us by asking “what one thing in your life have you done to significantly impact someone else?”.
What about you? What have you done lately? If you’re interested in getting involved right now, let us know. Together we can impact our community, nation and world for the better.
